Hollywood District

This Northeast Portland Neighborhood has come of age in the past 10 years.

If you remember the old 7-Up sign, it won't be a surprise to you that the Hollywood District has come into its own over the past decade--not that we're demeaning the cherished landmark sign. But when change comes often even beloved things can get swept away in our zeal to modernize.

And modernize is what we've done in the Hollywood. What was once a rather tired part of town has been catapulted into one of Eastside Portland’s desirable walkable neighborhoods.

Certainly community support to save the historic Hollywood Theater has been a significant factor in the Hollywood District’s facelift, as has Whole Foods going in on Sandy Boulevard & 43rd. Then there's the beloved Northeast Portland Community Center--the old YMCA--that community support has turned into a thriving place that offers swim classes, yoga, tai chi, day camps, noon basketball to mention a few.

The Hollywood Branch of the Multnomah County Library also got a facelift and attracts patrons who have the luxury of walking over from their homes to pick up books under leafy canopies of mature street trees--and on weekends trek across Sandy to the vibrant Hollywood Farmers Market.

The Hollywood Senior Center, too, is feeling the zeitgeist, and has expanded their concept and function under the rubric of the Community for Positive Aging. In addition they partner with various organizations like Proud Ground and Neighborhood Gleaners.

In short, the Hollywood District has come of age and is a prime example of a walkable neighborhood that has put Eastside Portland on the map for today's home buyers. We've come a long way baby from back in the day when the only place in Portland to live was the Westside.
